With the lens set to AF, it does nothing, but makes a slight whirring sounds as if the camera is trying to, but can't focus the lens. In MF, turning the focus ring makes soft clicking sounds. The autofocus works fine on the other lens I have. The lens has not been dropped. I take really, REALY good care of my stuff!
Hello! I'm trying to troubleshoot what might be wrong with my camera lens. The autofocus keeps adjusting so that it's a little bit out of focus. It's still mechanically working just fine and the sensor on screen keeps finding a match (turns green), but adjusts so that it's a little out of focus ever

The more likely issue, unfortunately, is that the canon 18-55mm lens that is generally bundled with these cameras, they are known for having intermittent problems with the internal ribbon cable that carries power and data from the lens contacts to the focus motor. You can say that the EF-S18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, which is also the kit lens for the EOS 200D and the EOS 800D, is one of Canon’s most versatile basic lenses. With its coverage of the wide-angle to mid-telephoto angles of view, this standard zoom lens is able to handle almost all everyday scenes.
Autofocus Operation The Canon 18-55mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 IS II isn't a USM lens, but it does still employ a lens-based motor: the lens focuses fairly fast, but is noticeably slower than a USM lens
The latest version of the lens is the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. Notice the "STM" at the end of the full model number. The "STM" lenses use Canon's latest auto focusing motor technology, which is much faster and more accurate than your current 18-55mm lens. The failure of your lens is a likely foreshadowing of problems with the camera
